Psychotherapists and Counsellors Association of WA
The Psychotherapists and Counsellors Association of Western Australia Inc (PACAWA) is the peak body broadly representing counsellors and psychotherapists in Western Australia.
PACAWA was established in 1993 to provide a state based collegial association for psychotherapists and counsellors across a broad spectrum of professional models, trainings and clinical experience. Current membership of PACAWA stands at approximately 175 members.
PACAWA is committed to a high standard of membership, the professional support of its members, to informing and safeguarding the consumer, and to the ongoing development of the professions of psychotherapy and counselling.
PACAWA membership is open to residents of Western Australian involved in the psychotherapy and counselling professions at either qualified or training level. Membership is available in 4 categories – Full Member, Provisional, Trainee, or Informal – where the Association’s minimum requirements for training, supervision and clinical experience are met. Members of PACAWA are required to abide by the code of ethics of the association.
While the association aims to foster continued education through the provision of professional development seminars, PACAWA is not a training body as such.
Members of PACAWA work as professional counsellors and/or psychotherapists. Collectively members work with the full range of therapeutic issues and client groups in agencies, private practice, or both.
