Australian Radix Body Centered Psychotherapy Association
The Australian Radix Teachers' Association (ARTA) was formed in 1990 as an independent offshoot of the Radix Institute USA which was created in 1976. It currently has eight full members, two associate members and four trainees completing their final year of training. All of its members are psychologists, social workers or allied health professionals although such training is not a pre requisite for membership.
Radix is a powerful neo-Reichian personal development process or body psychotherapy developed by Dr. Charles Kelley. Radix refers to the energy flow that gives rise to and unites the emotions, body, mind and spirit. Radix teachers/practitioners work with this energy to free you from unconscious habitual patterns which have become locked in the body/mind. These patterns are manifested in the mind as defence mechanisms and in the body, by our body shape, movement, breathing patterns and expression. The primary focus of the work is on the general well being of the client, not specific symptoms. However, as the clients process deepens, symptoms reduce.
Working with these subtle and creative process, the Radix practitioner enables the client to effectively deal with a broad spectrum of life''''s issues and to relate more authentically in life.
Radix training is provided by the Australian Radix Training Centre. The training consists of the equivalent of three academic years of conceptual learning and supervised practice teaching and a minimum of four years of weekly personal work. On completion of all the training standards, trainees apply to ARTA for certification and licensing as a Radix practitioner.
