Australian Hypnotherapists Association

The Australian Hypnotherapists Association (AHA) represents only professional clinical hypnotherapists. It was founded in 1949 and incorporated in 1956, and its Memorandum and Articles of Association have been registered with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission. The AHA is a non-profit, democratic institution, and is independent of any academic or commercial interest.

The AHA has established uniform standards for professional hypnotherapists, and has:

* published the book, "A Set of Competency and Proficiency Standards for Australian Professional Clinical Hypnotherapists";
* inaugurated an industry-wide competency and proficiency accreditation system (CPAS);
* inaugurated the Australian Hypnotherapists Accreditation Board Inc. (AHAB).

The AHA administers a thorough assessment process for Clinical Membership that includes written, oral, and practical examinations, based on its competency and proficiency standards relating to the theory and practice of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. The Executive must be satisfied that every such applicant can appropriately demonstrate, inter alia:

*good character and repute;
*a history of appropriately supervised, ethical practice;
*an understanding of the science of hypnosis / hypnotherapy;
*particular hypnotic and hypnotherapeutic skills;
*the capacity to assess, plan and manage cases, referring when appropriate.

Clinical members of the AHA treat the causes of a wide range of conditions, some of which may be categorised as follows:

*Psychotherapeutic Hypnosis:

*stress, trauma and post-traumatic stress;
*mood and nervous disorders;
*habits, obsessions and compulsions

*Medical and Dental Hypnosis:

*chronic and acute pain;
*stress related conditions;
*psychosomatic stimulation;

*Educational Hypnosis;

*Sports / Performance Hypnosis;

*Forensic Hypnosis
